Rev. Boyd Faust

April 7, 1944 — May 23, 2022

Houston, TX

The Reverend Boyd Quin Faust, age 78, died on May 23, 2022. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 12:00 pm Noon, Saturday, May 28, 2022 at his former parish, St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2609 FM 60, Deanville, TX 77852. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Following the services, guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and share memories at the Church’s fellowship hall.

Pastor Faust was born on April 7, 1944 in McComb, Mississippi to parents Neil and Joyce Faust. As a young man, he was heavily involved as an advocate for equality in the Civil Rights Movement. Boyd’s compassion and organizational skills, which would be such defining characteristics of his life, were already visible as he helped plan marches and demonstrations.

After graduating from high school, Boyd attended the University of Notre Dame. Boyd made many lifelong friends while at Notre Dame and he was known as an excellent student. Boyd had a deep love of knowledge, and throughout is life he was always learning.

As a young man, Boyd felt called to the ministry. He was ordained at Grace Lutheran Church, Teaneck, New Jersey on September 11, 1976 and served congregations in Chicago, IL; Jamestown, Fordville, and Sanborn, ND; Forth Worth, Deanville, Rosenberg, and Brenham, TX in addition to his service as a missionary in the Central African Republic from 1996-2000.

Boyd loved people and was a gracious and generous person. He had the ability to relate to anyone no matter what their background was. Boyd went on many mission trips abroad, but the ones he most looked forward to were in Africa. The people of Africa held a special place in his heart. Boyd retired in 2015 after suffering heart problems. Boyd had a generous and loving nature and continue to serve others after his retirement.

On September 17, 2005, Boyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Gabrielle Crowe. Gabrielle was his queen, and Boyd was an attentive and loving husband.  They enjoyed traveling together, but they also had lots of fun while at home in Houston.

After their marriage, Boyd came on board with Gabrielle assisting her with managing real estate properties. He had a meticulous eye for detail and did a wonderful job planning celebrations and events for their residents.

Boyd and Gabrielle truly enjoyed their neighborhood, WBTC Townhomes. Their door was always open, and they held many parties, celebrations, and open-houses. Boyd and Gabrielle’s marriage was a perfect balance and they worked extremely well together. They would plan and host large parties and get-togethers and every detail was always perfect. Boyd also enjoyed keeping their home looking beautiful by decorating and keeping a garden.

Although Boyd had never had a family of his own as a young man, he was very happy to have stepsons upon his marriage to Gabrielle. He considered his new family a gift, not a burden as some might. For Boyd, being a stepfather was a privilege. Boyd quickly became a close friend, counselor, and father-figure to his stepsons Robert and Dwight.  He was a calming presence in the family when difficulties arose, and he always encouraged them and was there to cheer them on at their accomplishments.  Throughout his life, Boyd was known as a loving, caring, and gracious man. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.

Boyd is survived by his loving wife, Gabrielle Crowe; stepsons Robert Crowe (wife Roxanna Sibrian), and Dwight Crowe; beloved granddaughter Aleena Crowe; and close friends the Rev. Amandus “Mandy” Derr and his wife Carole, the Rev. Tom Olson and wife Eunice, Pat and Joe Perrino, and many other wonderful friends.

In lieu of flowers, it was Boyd’s wishes that donations be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Deanville.
