Nevelyne Hall Neal Potenza, aged 84, of Lyons, Texas, died October 18, 2020, at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Brenham, Texas.
She was born February 6, 1936, in Phoenix, Arizona to William Lorien Neal, Sr. and Mardell Sumrall. Nevelyne married the love of her life, Jerry Thomas Potenza, on June 29, 1954. While raising her four children, at age 38 she began her studies in Physical Therapy at Houston Community College. Upon graduation she worked at Rosewood Hospital in Houston as a Physical Therapy Assistant. Several years later she began working for the Alief Independent School District in the Therapy and Special Education departments.
Nevelyne was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Lyons, Texas, where she taught both children and adult Sunday School classes.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Jerry Potenza, of Lyons; children, Denna Hardin (Potenza) and her husband, David Hardin, of Round Top, Texas; Thomas Potenza and his wife, Rhonda, of Cleveland, Texas; Steven Potenza of Lyons, Texas, and James Potenza and his wife, Gina, of Pearland, Texas. Nevelyne is also survived by her brother, William Lorien Neal, Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Porter, Texas; brother-in-law, Raymond Potenza and his wife, Sandy, of Lebo, Kansas; and three grandchildren, Andrew Hardin and his wife, Emily, Janie Potenza and TJ Potenza.
Nevelyne was preceded in death by her parents, William Lorien Neal, Sr. and Mardell Sumrall; daughter-in-law, Kristin Potenza and sister-in-law, Betty Potenza.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Potenza, Steven Potenza, James Potenza, Dave Hardin, Emily Hardin, and TJ Potenza. Acting as Honorary Pallbearers are William Neal, Raymond Potenza, and Andrew Hardin.
