Mattie Novosad

Mattie Pauline Kornegay Novosad 90 of Caldwell, TX passed on July 5, 2022, at Temple Living Center, in Temple Tx. Services will be held at Strickland Funeral home in Caldwell on July 11th at 2:00pm, officiated by Pastor Matt Thrasher of Salado, TX.

Mattie was born December 27, 1931, to Pauline Cox Kornegay and Tom Kornegay.  She grew up in Caldwell with her 7 sisters and 2 brothers. Mattie owned Mattie’s Grocery in Rogers, TX for many years before her career with the Texas Department of Health where she retired.

Mattie loved playing the wahoo board game and dominoes with her sisters and friends. She loved the Red Hat society in Caldwell and spending time at the Senior center. She also loved making baked goods, homemade bread, watching baseball, and holidays with her family.

Proceeded in death by her son Billy Dan Novosad, 1 brother and 6 sisters.

Survived by her son Tommy Novosad Jr. and wife Pat of Caldwell, TX, daughter Paula Novosad Zingelmann and husband Roy of Salado, TX, son Ted Novosad and wife Sherry of Dayton, TX, her sister Peggy Hayes of College Station, TX; her brother Charles Kornegay of Houston, TX.
Mattie has 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren that she loved greatly and was extremely proud of.
