James (Jimmy) Nix

James R. “Jimmy” Nix was born on May 22, 1939 in Temple, Texas, as the only child of Willie Norville Nix and John Robert Nix.

Jimmy completed Caldwell High School in 1957 and continued his studies at Blinn College in Brenham.  He then joined the U.S. Navy serving 6 months in San Diego, California, 2 years Flag Officer Commander in Chief with Pacific Fleet Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, 4 months legal office Charleston, South Carolina and Counterintelligence Support Activity in Guantanamo, Cuba.  Over his career he received the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Navy National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal.

The best event of his life happened when he met Emily Marie Schubert and were wed on May 2, 1964, at Frenstat Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  Their union blessed them with their daughter Kimberly Ann on August 23, 1972.

When Jimmy returned home from military service, he attended Texas A&M University before starting his career with the US Postal Service.  In 1976, he also joined the 420th Engineer Battalion of the US Army Reserve.  He completed his enlistment in 1981 as Sergeant 1st Class E7.  After 32 years, he retired from the Postal Service in 1995 but continued working a variety of jobs, but mainly worked as a mail carrier for Texas Engineering Extension Service for 15 years before his second retirement.

He enjoyed time spent with the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, softball, camping, travelling, gardening, fishing, and visiting the casino.  The light of James and Emily’s life was their granddaughter Lauren Ashley Fox who was born February 16, 2000 and enjoyed spending as much time with her as they could and was most proud of her decision to go into a nursing career.

James was preceded in death by his parents John Robert and Willie Nix and his wife Emily Nix.

Survivors include his daughter Kimberly Fox, son-in-law Josh Fox and granddaughter Lauren Fox.  James is also survived by many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
