Hubert Krenek

Hubert Andrew Krenek, 88 of Caldwell, passed away Thursday, October 21, 2021, after a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial was held, Monday, November 1, 2021, at St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church in Caldwell with Father Melvin Dornak and Deacon John Young officiating. The burial followed at the church cemetery. Military Honors were provided by VFW Post #4458.

Hubert was born November 30, 1932, to Veronica and Val Krenek in Caldwell, TX. He attended Red Hollow School through the 8th grade and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1950.

He worked for Continental Can Company in Houston until he was drafted in the Army and served from 1953-1955. He was stationed at Camp Hanford in Washington.

Hubert went to barber school and worked as a barber for many years. Then he went back to school and drove an oil tanker truck until he retired.

Hubert loved his church and his family. He was an active member of the KC’s and Czech Heritage society. Hubert enjoyed many hobbies including polka dancing. He traveled to any place he could find a polka dance. He also loved reading, photography, gardening, and animals, especially dogs. He also loved spending time at Dave and Jerry’s, especially exchanging stories with Orville and Floyd.

Hubert is survived by a sister, Dorothy Matus of Caldwell, 3 brothers, Bill Krenek of Dearborn, Michigan, Dan Krenek and wife Emma of Manchaca, Texas, and Tom Krenek and wife Joyce of Caldwell, Texas.

Also close to Hubert were his nephews Mike Matus and wife Nicole of College Station, Murphy Matus and wife Kimber of Cedar Park, Paul Krenek and Neal Krenek of Dearborn Michigan, Dean Krenek and wife Brandy of Kaufman and nieces Cathy Krenek of Dearborn, Melanie Matus of Bryan, Deborah Jistel and husband Chris of Manchaca, Karen Krenek of Deanville, Sue Penrose and husband Sam of Mill Valley, California.

He is also survived by great nieces Morgan and McKayla Matus, Allyson Krenek, Kaitlyn Krenek, Sydney Krenek, Lila Penrose and great nephews Owen Penrose, Thomas Krenek, and Eric Krenek.

Hubert’s nieces and nephews have great memories of “Uncle Hubert (Duck).” He took them on trips, and riding in his “pink” jeep and his 66 red Mustang, spent time with them at the tank and he always had fireworks for every occasion (that resulted in some stories we still tell today). We can also never forget his love of Willie Nelson and going to the Willie Nelson Picnic. He would come out of the house dressed in his boots, hat, and "shorts" for the day. He will be greatly missed.
