Garnett Gerdes

Garnett G. Gerdes, 87, of Caldwell passed away peacefully at his residence with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life will be, July 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. @ St. Johns Lutheran Church Deanville with Pastor Terry Moon officiating. The interment will follow with Military Honors provided by The Navy Honor Guard and the VFW Post # 4458 Honor Guard. The family will receive guests, Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at the funeral home.

Garnett was born March 17, 1935, in Temple. Texas to parents Albert Otto Gerdes & Ruby Lee (Riechle) Gerdes. After graduating High School, he joined the United States Navy as an Electricians Mate 2nd Class. When he returned home, he took College Courses. Garnett married the love of his Darlene (Hazel) April 7, 1954. He worked for over 30 years for the Xerox Company as a Regional Service Manager.

He was a member Life Member of VFW Post #4458 where he served as, Past Post Commander, Past Quartermaster, and Past District #17 Quartermaster, Past Member of the Honor Guard Council of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Founding Member of the Deanville VFD and a member of the NRA.

Mr. Garnett enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, traveling, and gardening. He loved going on cruises as well. The last 20 years he was very active in the VFW Post #4458, he spent a lot of his time there. He was a Renaissance man, he mastered many skills electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.

Mr. Gerdes is preceded in death by his Parents, his first wife, Darlene Gerdes, 1 brother, Dan Gerdes, a sister, Gayle Hardin and also by his second wife, Mary Gerdes.

He is survived by his loving family, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Farr and husband Kent of Pasadena, TX., Karen Peters and husband Charles of Somerville, TX., four grandchildren, Spenser Rhodes, Dalton Rhodes, Amye Farr and Sean Farr, and seven, great-grandchildren Seth Farr, Sophia Mendoza, Adrian Mendoza, Jackson Farr, Bianca Mendoza, Abel Mendoza and Killian Rhodes and a sister Sandra Leatherwood and husband Steve of Meridian, Tx.,

Serving as pallbearers are Seth Farr, Spenser Rhodes, Dalton Rhodes, David Hardin, Chris Smith and John Smith, Thomas Ruiz will be an Honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be given to the Wounded Warrior Program, VFW Post #4458, of charity of your choice.
