Dr. Franklin Stein

Snook, TX

Franklin (Frank) Joseph Stein, DVM of Snook, TX, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on October 3, 2022 in Bryan, TX at the age of 79. Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be from 5-7PM on Friday, October 7, 2022 at Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell.  The Holy Rosary will be recited at 6PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at St. Mary – Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Caldwell, TX with Father Melvin Dornak officiating.  Interment will follow at the Snook Cemetery.

Frank was born in Castroville, TX on February 5, 1943 to Robert Woodrow and Malinda Wehmeyer Stein.  After graduating from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1965, he served as a Captain in the US Air Force in Amarillo, TX.  He continued serving in the US Air Force Reserves at a Lt. Colonel and retired in 1991.  He was married to Marsha Stein, DVM, on December 17, 1983. in College Station, Texas and remained in Texas for the duration of his life.

Frank was a caring, compassionate, loving gentleman that loved hunting, teaching, being outdoors, taking care of his animals, tending to his garden and enjoying the company of his friends and family.  Many weekends you could find him at his beloved ranch and hunting lodge in Mercury, TX doing what he enjoyed. Frank successfully showed his mules, donkeys, and Pinzgauer cattle in TX and throughout the US for many years.  He was also known to travel several times a year to North Carolina, Ireland, Scotland and many more fun places.  These adventures and a long, happy life provided many stories to tell.

He was a Professor of Anatomy at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine for many years and became Director of the Veterinary Medical Research Park.  He was committed to providing the best facilities, and animal care services so that his colleagues could accomplish their research and teaching goals. Dr. Stein retired from teaching and as The Director of the Veterinary Medical Research Park in 2009.  He continued teaching in the Veterinary Technician Program at Blinn College in Bryan, TX until recently.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Stein, and brother-in-law Donald Biediger as well as several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife Marsha Stein, son Richard Stein (Kelli), daughter Linda Thurman (Beau), grandsons Reagan Thurman and Nicholas Stein, granddaughter Courtney Thurman, sister Rosalie Biediger of Rio Medina, TX, and his loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends.

Love radiated from Frank that could change the heart of anyone for the better.  In lieu of flowers please make memorials and donations to Still Creek Boys & Girls Ranch in Bryan, TX.

The family of Frank wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff and doctors at Baylor Scott & White Hospital for keeping him comfortable in his final days.
