Obituary

Albert Lee Smith passed away on May 24, 2023. Visitation for Albert will be on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30am at the First Baptist Church in Caldwell. Interment following the service at Hix Cemetery.

Albert was born on July 29, 1934, in Caldwell, Texas, to Elbert and Mary Smith. He was actively involved in the community throughout his life, serving as a member of the Masonic Warren Lodge# 56, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the Kolache Festival.  His hobbies included playing dominos, spades, shooting pool, and watching Wheel of Fortune, the Aggies and the Cowboys.  He delighted in teaching his grandkids to fish in the pond. He especially looked forward to his game nights with his nephew Joe Smith.

Albert has fondly been called “Pop” since his oldest grandchild, Lindsay, bestowed it on him.  While 88 may seem old to some, Pop was not old a day in his life. He met everyone with a firm handshake, huge smile, and enthusiasm to lend a hand. If given the time, he would tell you a story you’d never forget. Pop adored, prioritized, and invested his greatest pride in his family, for whom he was a beloved legend. He leaves a legacy of grit and tenacity, powered by the optimism and lightheartedness of a child. Pop’s spirit is inextinguishable because we carry it with us. When he walked through the gates of Heaven, we can hear him saying “I’m good, man, I’m good.”

Albert is proceeded in death by his beloved wife Jean, his parents, and brother Billy E. Smith.

Survivors include his six sons: Richard L. Smith; Steven A. Smith and wife Kim; Roger A. Smith and wife Hannah; Steward Alan Smith; Curt Sellers and wife Dyung; Doug Sellers and wife Tanya; his two daughters Cindy Kaale and husband Jason; and Stephanie Bowers and husband Scott; his sister Demple J. Brown and husband Jim.

Grandchildren include Lindsay Smith, Kelsey Smith, Katherine Smith, Luke Smith, William Smith, James Smith, Madeleine Smith, Blake Smith, Reagan Smith, Carson Smith, Hudson Smith, William, Michael and Jeanna Sellers, Alexandra Lucas, Jason Sellers, Nicole, Erica and Samantha Kaale, Brandon and Julia Bowers; three great-grandchildren: Faith Smith, William Lucas, and Emilia Lucas and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
