William married the love of his life, Mary Jane Martin, on March 26, 1949, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Together, they built a beautiful life and made homes in Miami, Florida; New Orleans, Louisiana; Houston, Texas; and, for the past 30 years, in Caldwell, Texas.
Affectionately known as Bill, Dan, Hutch, Staubach, and Papa, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved life, treasured his family, and shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Mason. A lifelong football fan, Bill played during his time in the Marines. Bill attended the University of Miami, where he studied business and accounting and graduated in 1953.
William proudly served his country as a United States Marine, having enlisted after graduating high school in 1945. A commitment and honor he carried throughout the years.
He met his lifelong wife Mary Jane Martin while he was stationed in Hawaii, during World War II.
William was an auditor by trade. He worked for Swift and company after he graduated college then went to work for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company in New Orleans. He and several other friends left New Orleans and moved to Houston to work for Highland’s Insurance Co in the mid 70’s where he retired as an assistant Vice President overseeing special accounts Haliburton and Brown and Root around 1993.
After retirement, William and Mary Jane split their time between the house in Houston and the farm in Caldwell. They spent more and more time at the farm over the years and moved here full time after the new home was ready.
