Wanda Pearl Poehl, age 78, passed away on May 6, 2026. She was born on April 13, 1948, in Gatesville, Texas. Wanda was a loving mother, devoted wife and the best grandmother.
Wanda had the kindest soul and warmest heart. She also had a good sense of humor that brought smiles to those who knew her. She was giving to all, in any way possible, and always willing to help where she could. She loved her whole family to no end. Wanda endured some very heartbreaking times in the past 5 years of her life. Losing her husband, Thomas, and then her beloved son, Allen. She became ill over the past year and a half but remained a fighter through it all to the very end.
One of Wanda’s proudest moments was being a grandmother to her grandson, Connor Poehl. Her love for Connor knew no bounds. She would light up with the biggest smile every time she saw Connor. They had a bond that no one could break.
Wanda’s memory will forever be cherished by those closest to her. She will be remembered for her kindness, loving soul, and fighting spirit. May her soul now rest in eternal peace.
Wanda is survived by her loving grandson, Connor Poehl, her sister, Wilma Dickerson from Houston, her brother, Bill Whatley from New Mexico and eight nephews and their spouses on the Whatley side, and Cindy Larkin. Wanda was preceded in death by Her loving husband, Thomas Poehl, her son Allen Poehl, her parents Roxie and Ray Whatley, sister Bobbie Birkenmeier, and brother Boone Whatley.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone who played a part in Wanda’s life during the end. I want to thank the wonderful staff at the Village at Gleannloch Farms community for helping to take such good care of Wanda during her last part of life. A special thank you also to Heart-to-Heart hospice team for being there every second of the way to ensure Wanda’s comfort.
