Walter Schumacher

Services for Walter Henry Schumacher, 92, of Caldwell are set for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville, with Rev. Terry Moon officiating. Military Honors will be provided by VFW #4458. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. Mr. Schumacher passed away on August 15, 2017 in Caldwell, Texas

Walter was born September 22, 1924 to Gus Schumacher and Sophia (Krueger) Schumacher in the community of Frenstat near Caldwell, Texas.

He married Vivian Emma (Koehler) Schumacher on December 27, 1945 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lyons, Texas.

Walter was a farmer and a rancher all of his life, and worked for Nagel Coat Hanger factory for 17 years, and worked as a carpenter as well. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking care of other ranchers cattle. He and Vivian were very active at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville. He also helped out with the Deanville Volunteer Fire Department fund raisers for many years. Walter was a member of: VFW #4458, American Legion #0455, Sons of Hermann Lodge Deanville, and the Deanville Volunteer Fire Department. He also served his country bravely during WWII in the United States Army as a PFC. During his service he was stationed in Austria and Germany.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 71 years, Vivian Schumacher; great granddaughter, Melodie Jones; sisters, Olga Schumacher, Velma Poehls, Lillian Neinann; and brothers, Henry and Edwin Schumacher.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter Schumacher and wife Debby of Deanville, Bobby Lee Schumacher and wife Bonnie of Deanville; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette Peed and husband Jim of Deanville; sister, Laura Whited of Killeen; grandchildren, Jimann Jones and husband Jeff of Milano, Jamie Brown and husband Dendy of Gause, Jackie Thompson and husband Ray of Deanville; great grandchildren, Madeline Moreno and husband Michael of Deanville, Daven Metzroth of Deanville; and great, great grandchildren, Gavin Moreno, Harper Moreno, and Thomas Moreno all of Deanville.

Active pallbearers will be Curtis Webb, Billy Albright, John Dalchau, Joe John Rychlik, Gerald Korth, and John Moore. Inactive pallbearers are Leroy Poehls, Sonny Schumacher, L.W. Brinkman, and Frank Roberts.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
