Vernon Ray Havemann, 82, of Caldwell, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 24, 2026. Visitation will be held on August 1, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Providence Baptist Church, funeral services will immediately follow from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Lee officiating. Burial and military honors will follow at Providence Cemetery.

Vernon was born on July 15, 1944, in Caldwell, Texas, to Alex and Deldee (Krueger) Havemann. He was one of four siblings. In his early years, his family moved to Houston, Texas where Vernon attended Lutheran parochial schools. He graduated in 1962 from Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, where he enjoyed playing baseball. He loved playing baseball and his dad was his coach. After high school, Vernon started electrical work in Houston. He was drafted in the army in 1965, doing a tour in Vietnam from 1966-1967. Vernon began his military service in the Engineering Corp, but then later was selected to be a part of the Special Services whose job was detaching the mines in the field. After leaving the military, he continued to work as an electrician, eventually owning his own businesses, Channel Building Services and Channel Electric with his partner J.C. Graves. After moving to Caldwell in 1988, Vernon also enjoyed working with his cousin Roy Havemann, with his home woodworking business. He also ran his own business, Havemann Electrical Services, and raised emus. He later had a career with Colorado Materials and then transferred to Knife River where he served as a special projects manager. He retired in April 2017 at the age of 72. He enjoyed working and was a hard worker all his life.

Vernon met his love Gail Hearne a few years after moving back to Caldwell, and the two were married June 20, 1993, at First Baptist Church in Caldwell, Texas. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and friendship. They loved spending time together fishing, exploring nature, playing 42, especially with their good friends Milton and Gladys, watching baseball, and attending baseball games whenever they could, going to Caldwell High School football games and going to the Burleson County Fair every year. Vernon had a love for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and playing golf. Some of his happiest times fishing were taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren fishing on the tanks behind his home. He was also an avid baseball fan, and he and Gail would watch games together almost every night during the baseball season. Although Vernon did not have children or grandchildren of his own, he loved Gail’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as if they were his own. Besides his electrical abilities, he was also an avid wood worker and craftsman. Vernon and Roy did all the woodwork inside of his home in Caldwell. He also made things for people, including a desk for his granddaughter, Caylee. After the passing of his beloved wife Gail, Vernon adopted a special dog “Buddy” who served as his

faithful companion until his passing. Vernon was a Mason and a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church where he served faithfully.

Vernon is preceded in death by his spouse of 29 years, Gail Havemann, his parents; Alex and Deldee Havemann; sister, Betty Vanover; brother-in-law, Milton Breithaupt and step son-in-law, Gene Hermes who he thought of like a son. He is survived by his two stepdaughters, Shannon and Charles “Chuck” Clark of Caldwell and Sherri Hermes of Caldwell; his step-grandchildren, Crystal Smith (Mike Miller) of League City, Travis (Kayla) Clark, Cody (Melissa) Clark, of Caldwell, and Caylee (Logan) Atchison of Belton; and nine step-great-grandchildren, Layne, Melaney, Mackenzey, Levi, Dakoda, Taylor, Chase, Hannarae and Colton. He is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Breithaupt of Tomball, brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Janice Havemann of Channelview and Renea & Buddy Graves of Houston who were like his own children, his good friend Hubert Hoyack and many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be his step-grand and great grandsons Travis Clark, Cody Clark, Chase Clark and Levi Clark and his cousins Russell Havemann, Rodney Havemann, Shane Havemann and Nicholas Havemann. Honorary pallbearer is longtime friend Hubert Hoyack.
