Vernon Abney, Sr

Vernon Abney, Sr., 75, of Lyons passed on Wednesday, October 25. Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 9 am – 12 pm at Strickland Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery at 2 pm.

God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered, "Come with me!" With tearful eyes we watched you slowly fade away. Although we loved you dearly we would not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, your hard-working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Abney; sister, Joyce Carter and husband Buddy; sons, Vernon Abney, Jr. ”Butch” and wife Sherry, Patrick Alfarone and wife Michelle; daughter, Tracey Cook and husband Marvin; Step-children, Rhonda Dick, Loretta Jolley Ronnie Dick and wife Donna, Shawn Phallan; grandchildren, Clayton Maddux, Alexandria Maddux, Jefferson Abney, Brigitte Abney, Heather Knapp, Ryan Alfarone; step-grandchildren, Phallan Garcia, Keanan Garcia, Shawn Earl Phallan, Garrett Dick, Ronelle Dick, Brice Gardner; great-grandchildren; Hayden Dunn, Hannah Dunn, Taylor Knapp and Ashyton Knapp.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson and Kathryn Abney.
