Mrs. Gaskamp went to her heavenly home on December 9, 2018, in Bryan, Texas.

Tomelane was born March 22, 1926, to Thomas Edgar Jackson and Mable Claire (Porter) Jackson on Mustang Street in Caldwell, Texas. This has always seemed fitting because of her life-long affair with horses.

Tomelane loved anything to do with horses, Bible Study, books, genealogy, and watermelons. She owned and operated the Bar T Ranch Camp & Horsemanship School in the Houston area and Caldwell for over 30 years. ‘Mrs. G’ was a mentor and second mother to her many students. Tome loved reading and studying the Bible, and sharing what she learned. Her knowledge and guidance has had a profound influence on many, many people. She was an avid reader with bookcases lining the walls of her home.

Tomelane’s ancestors came to Burleson County in 1833. She was known to say, “This dirt is in our blood.” Tomelane was very interested in the genealogy of her family and the history of Burleson County. She became the keeper of much of her Porter-Jackson family history beginning in the 1960’s & 70’s, and spent many years continuing to collect information.

In 1972, she founded the Gulf Coast Women’s Equine Association, which is still going strong today. She was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell, The Texas Folklore Society, Westerners, Brazos Valley Emmaus Community, and The Burleson County Historical Society.

Tomelane was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman Gaskamp; three sisters, Blanche Mikulastik, Bess Richardson, and Jane Gillis.
