Samuel Case

Samuel Leon case, 83, of Somerville, passed away at his honme, June 7, 2017. A Graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery in Thorndale, Texas.

Samuel was born April 19, 1934 in Wilson, Texas to parents Calvin Case and Ollie Emily (Watson) Case. He was the sixth child of eight. His grandparents were sharecroppers, so the family moved a lot to farm the different lands throughout west and central Texas. He worked the farm lands harvesting cotton, sorghum, maize, wheat, oats, corn, cantaloupes, watermelons, sweet potatoes, and Irish potatoes. He also took care of the livestock, machinery and household chores. His grandparents mad sure all the kids attended school to receive a better education.

After graduating school Samuel joined the United States Army in October of 1956 as a first cook master. He served tours in Germany and the United States. While serving he was awarded; The National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 6th clasp, Expert Rifle with M14 Rifle, Silver Loop, Mechando Award, Silver Talton certificate, Food Service School Cold War certificate & Badges, and 5 Service Stripes. He retired from the Army after 22 years as a Staff Sergeant.

He was a man of many talents, Mechanic, Carpenter, Artist, Plumber, Truck Driver, Cook and a Volunteer Fireman. He was a father, husband, and a friend. If someone needed anything he wouldn’t hesitate to give them what they needed.

Samuel was a member of the American Water Works Association, Texas Water Utilities Association, Brazos-Colorado Water Utilities Association, The American Legion Post 0455, the Sheriff’s Association of Texas associate member, and the Birch Creek area Volunteer Fire Dept.

Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Hermina (Demnarter) case, and son, Kenneth Case.

Surviving Samuel are his loving family; son and daughter-in-law, Richard & Diane Case; two daughters, Patricia Klingbeif, Johanna Gyuhlke; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin & Lola Mae Case; sister and brother-in-law, Yvonne & Joe Stratta; three grandchildren, Sandra Simkins, Richard Case, Jr., and Kenneth Gyuhlke; and three great grandchildren, Haleigh Simkins, Josh Holloway and Ethan Holloway. He will be missed by all who knew him.
