Richard was born November 20, 1936 to Horace Silence and Frances (White) Silence in Houston, Texas.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents; daughter, Vicki Jedlicka; grandson Patrick Michael Toler; brother Danny Silence and sister, Frances Ellisor.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Darla & Jerry Oakman of Montgomery, Texas, Malissa & Mitchell Pate of Malakoff, Texas, Melody & Sam Ruffino of Anderson, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Mark & Glenda Silence of Trinity, Texas; grandchildren, Cody Toler, Kyle Stokes, Luke Stokes, Elizabeth & Mike Davis, Mitchell & Ashley Pate Jr., Angela & James Pettit, Sam Ruffino III, Charlene Ruffino, Christopher Oakman, Erin Oakman; and numerous other family and friends.

Richard was District Chief with the Houston Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and planting trees. He was active in Calvary Baptist Church. He was a gun enthusiast and loved to be outdoors hiking and camping.

Pallbearers will be Cody Toler, Kyle Stokes, Luke Stokes, Sam Ruffino III, Mike Davis, James Pettit and Mitchell Pate. James Beatty will act as honorary pallbearer.
