On December 13, 2025, Norman Thomas Hoffman went home to be with the Lord. Born on November 16, 1938, to John and Alma Hoffman, he lived a full life over his 87 years. The oldest of four children, he graduated from Austin High School in the class of 1957. He had many occupations before his retirement from Texas State University. He drove a dump truck in his teens, worked as purchaser at the Texas Highway Department, remodeled and built homes, worked in oil drilling, painted garage floors, and was part of the college IT support staff. After his retirement, Norman busied himself with lawncare, grocery shopping, cooking, small wood building projects, playing cards, cheering on the Longhorns, and whatever else was on the honey-do list.
Norman was blessed with many friends and family that loved him and whom he dearly loved. He is survived by his wife Linda C. Mitchell-Hoffman; 2 children Cheryl Beth Escutia (Virgilio (VJ)) and Janet Hoffman Evatt (John); 3 step-children Tod Mitchell (Helen), Tina Mitchell, Stephanie (Stephy) Mitchell; his nephew John F. Hoffman, III (Carrie); 15 grandchildren Nicole (Nicki) Newell (Sean), Isabelle Hulsey (Daniel), Alec Escutia (Melissa), Paige Bronner (Jeff), Marcus Escutia, Annalise Herman (Alonzo), Desiree (Desi) Escutia, John Skyler Evatt (Markie), Avery Evatt (River), Jack Mitchell (Mikaela), Ben Mitchell (Nicole (Cole)), Ashton Underbrink (Bob), Shelbi Lamar (Alexander Schroepfer), Garrett White, and Logan White (Taylor); and 17 great-grandchildren Odessa Newell, Leland Newell, Niel Hulsey, Linnaea Hulsey, Thomas Bronner, Walter Bronner, Penelope Bronner, Blaire Herman, Caspian Herman, Dietrich Herman, Prue Evatt, Cora Mitchell, Oliver Mitchell, Owen Mitchell, Arlo Underbrink, Etta Underbrink, and Bexley White.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Fred Hoffman, Sr. and Alma Irene Hoffman nee Sexton; his siblings JoAnn Preece, John Fred (Freddy) Hoffman, Jr (Debbie), and Gary Dee Wayne Hoffman; and his nephew Jeff Roberts.
A celebration of life will be held graveside at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville, Texas at 3:30pm on Thursday, December 18, 2025, with Reverend Jason Sidler officiating.
