Mildred East

September 2, 1926 — August 22, 2019

A visitation for Mildred (Dewitt) Russell East, 92, of Caldwell is set for 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday August 25, 2019 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell Texas. Services will be at 12:00 p.m. (noon), Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Chapel of the Chimes at Earthman’s Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Road in Baytown, Texas. Interment will follow at the cemetery.

Mildred was born September 2, 1926 to David Law Dewitt and Eugenia (Robbins) Dewitt in Baytown, Texas. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, worked for Humble Oil, the Veterans Affairs Department and various other employers. Upon retirement from the City of Baytown Police Department in 1984 after 35 years, she relocated to Caldwell, Texas where she and her husband Robert East ranched and completed their lives. She was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown as well as Lake Travis United Methodist church.

With the tragic death of her husband John Robin Russell, Sr. in 1959, Mildred dedicated her life to raising two rowdy boys as a single parent from the time they were ages 6 and 8.

She struggled along the way with her children’s speech impairments, endless transportation of animals to 4-H shows, food/feed/insurance/gas bills, divorce and other interesting life events. All accepted, engaged and dispatched with a certain loud, fiery resolve.

She had a good life; she was loved and she will be missed!

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Russell, husband, Bob East; brothers, Charles and David Dewitt; brother-in-law, Wilson Russell; sisters-in-law, Elon Riechenau, Pat Pearson, Carla Russell Jones and Frankie West.

Mildred is survived by sons, John & Barbara Russell of Caldwell, Carl & Virginia Russell of Blanco; sister-in-law, Maurice Wilson; grandchildren, Elise Russell, Austin Russell, Jessica Menking, Adam Russell, Trey Russell, Robert Owens, Shawn Owens, Katherine Kaiser; great-grandchildren, Riley, Piper, Charlie, Anna, Jaxon, Weston, Natalie, and Harper.

Pallbearers will be Austin Russell, Adam Russell, Trey Russell, Robert Owens, Shawn Owens, Drew Kaiser, Jeremy Menking and Russell Page.
