Mary Sweatt

Mary Davidson Sweatt, 90, of College Station went to her heavenly home on Friday, February 17. Visitation will be Sunday, February 19, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Services will be Monday, February 20, 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

Mary Sweatt was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born in a logging camp in Alabama and was the only one of seven children to get a college degree and teach English for twenty-six years. All of those years spent teaching English did not go unnoticed, as she had no problem correcting your grammar. When she was not teaching she spent time helping her husband to run their ranch. Mary was Robert’s right hand ranch helper that could spend the day feeding, fixing fence and herding cattle before showing her true talents at the chuck wagon. She helped put her five children through college which included assisting in writing term papers. Mary was a true angel in every sense of the word and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar Davidson and Mineola Bass Davidson, four brothers and one granddaughter, Lori Smith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Robert H. Sweatt, Sr., sons, Sam Sweatt and wife Mara, Robert H. Sweatt, Jr. and wife Judy, Dan Sweatt and wife Vicki, daughters, Roberta and husband Larry, Marcy and husband Tommy, brother, Elmer Davidson and wife Frankie, sister, Massey Mason, sister-in-law, Gale Davidson, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Jordan Sweatt, Graham Sweatt, Tom Ed Sweatt, Barry Boren, Michael Smith, Wayne Smith and Cody Lane.

Honorary Pallbearer is Taylor Sweatt.
