Somerville

Martha Jane Weaver Hertenberger of Somerville passed from this life on March 2nd, 2026, at the age of 92.

Martha was born on January 23rd, 1934, to Jack and Rose (Garrett) Weaver in Kerrville, Texas. She graduated from Ball high school in Galveston, and achieved her bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. A lifetime resident of Texas, she spent her life exploring, learning, teaching, raising children, and grabbing every adventure that she could. She loved singing, gardening, flying, going to the beach, climbing trees, camping, creating art and music, teaching, loving her neighbor, and spending time with friends and family. Martha embraced life and people from all walks of life. She taught school in Somerville for over 35 years and volunteered as a tutor for several years after she retired. She had a gentile, fun-loving spirit, and always had a kind word for anyone she met. She loved her church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and choir director for many years.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; sisters and brothers in law, Mary Rose and David Johnson, Maggie and Donald Ray Hutchings, and Doris Mann; two nephews, John Hutchings and Bruce Johnson, and a son in law, Greg Krueger.

She is survived by her three children and a son in law, Laura and Jeff Smith, Catherine Krueger, and Eric Hertenberger; grandchildren, Alyssa McKay and her husband Chad, Matt Smith, Sam Smith, and Catie (Ren) Krueger; one great grandson, Taylor McKay; one brother, Lawrence Weaver and his wife Nona, and brother-in-law, Doug Mann. She is also survived by nieces Margaret Hutchings, Catherine Mann, and Maggie Johnson; nephews, David Johnson, Donnie Hutchings, Larry Weaver, and Howard Mann; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
