Lillie Mae Hyvl, age 94, of Burleson County, Texas, entered into eternal rest on June 30, 2025. A lifelong resident of Burleson County, Lillie Mae was born on April 9, 1931, and lived a life rooted in faith, family, hard-work and heartfelt generosity.
She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1948 and, after her obligation to pick cotton for her parents, she married the love of her life, Bohus Hyvl in the same year. Their devoted marriage of 57 years was one of her most cherished, and her most amazing accomplishment, and together they built a home filled with love, work ethic, and faith.
Lillie Mae was baptized in 1931 at Salem's Evangelical Church, confirmed in 1946 at St. Stephens Evangelical Church, and later rededicated her life to Christ as an adult. A faithful churchgoer and active member of the Caldwell Brethren Church for 56 years who then transferred to New Tabor Brethren Church in 2004. A longtime Brethren, she and Bohus first joined Caldwell as New Tabor preached in Czech at the time they were wed. She was active in Christian Sisters, and her life was guided by scripture — especially Romans 8:28-31, Psalms 23, 91, 100, 103, and 1 Corinthians 13:1-13.
She will be remembered by many as a joyful gift-giver and thoughtful card writer, never forgetting a birthday, graduation, sobriety date, anniversary, or any reason to celebrate another. Her handwritten cards and homemade baked goods were tokens of her love and deep care for others. Lillie Mae found pleasure in quilting and gave many of the kids and grandkids her homemade quilts. She was a polished domino player, playing 42 with Bohus and later chicken-foot with all the grandkids. As a hard-working, supportive and loving wife, she exemplified the role of a true "Helper" to Bohus in the biblical sense found in Genesis.
Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bohus Hyvl; her parents, Meta and William Peters; her brother Eldie Peters and his wife Joyce; and lastly her sister Shirley Gerthe.
She is survived by her loving children: son and daughter-in-law Miranda and Bruce Hyvl of Rockwall, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Danny Miller of Caldwell, Texas, Peggy and Luther “Butch” Durkop of New Braunfels, Texas, and Sharyn Hyvl of Spring, Texas.
Her legacy continues through ten grandchildren and their spouses: Kimberly Schwierzke, Michael Schwierzke, Amber and Osais Quispe, Allison and John Durkop, Veronica and Bo Durkop, Shelby Stockbridge and Seth Hyvl, and Jacob, Rachel and Trinity Hyvl; three step-grandchildren: Kristen Miller, Savannah and Jett Stamps; and five great-grandchildren: Cailin and Max Schwierzke, Katelyn, Kyle and Zachary Durkop and two step-great-grandchildren Saralynn and William Herrera. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gunar Gether of Rockdale, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Michael Schwierzke, John Durkop, Bo Durkop, Jake Hyvl, Colin Markes, and Duane Wagner.
The New Tabor Brethren Church held a special place in Mom’s heart. More importantly, she would want everyone to know the love of her Lord and Savior. A donation to the building fund will help rebuild this cherished church for the next generation—and continue to share the love and light she lived by.
