Juanita Orozco

August 13, 1929 — May 29, 2016

Juanita Perez Orozco, born August 13, 1929 in Navasota, Texas, died on May 29, 2016, in Austin at the age of 86.
While growing up in Navasota, Mrs. Orozco grew to love music and, with her sisters, enjoyed going to the local dances. It was at one of these dances that she met her husband-to-be, Lorenzo, fresh from serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. During their marriage of almost 58 years, they raised six children together. They moved to Austin with their young family in 1965, where she and her husband raised their children to value faith and the importance of family. When the eldest Orozco child entered the University of Texas at Austin in 1971, Mrs. Orozco went to work at the Austin State Hospital laundry and worked there to put her kids through college and one through law school, finally retiring in 1991. In her retirement, she found so much joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She was also an avid Longhorn and Astros fan and enjoyed watching both. She was a master storyteller with a quick wit and happily shared many memories and stories of her life experiences. She was a woman of deep faith, praying her rosary every night, without fail.
Mrs. Orozco was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lorenzo Orozco, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Rosa Perez, Antonia Zapata, and Mary Cumpian and her brothers, Beto Perez and Frank Perez. She is survived by her children Mary Irene Negrete (Refugio J.A. "Kookie" Negrete), Austin; Rose Linda Ochoa (John Z. Ochoa, Jr.), Houston; Theresa Guerrant (William B. Guerrant III), Austin; Daniel Orozco, Austin; Martha Orozco (Rebecca Robertson), Houston; Lorenzo Orozco, Jr. (Ann Orozco), Cedar Park; her grandchildren Jennifer Nicole Fry (Kris), Pflugerville; George Louis Negrete, (Nicole) Pflugerville; John Z.
