Joyce Hitchcock

October 4, 1932 — November 21, 2016

Joyce Calvin Hitchcock was born October 4, 1932 in the Providence Community of Burleson
County, Texas. Joyce went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday,
November 21, 2016 at the age of 84 years.
Joyce was the daughter of Homer and Lydia (Blazek) Calvin and the seventh of nine children.
She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1950. On April 8, 1951, Joyce married Philip
(Bobby) Hitchcock at Providence Baptist Church. They made their home in the Providence
Community and lived there together for nearly 60 years. In the early years, Joyce was a
homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. Later Joyce started to work
outside the home. She worked for the Burleson County Clerk’s office for several years but
the majority of her years of employment were with Caperton-Towslee Title Company, where
she worked for approximately 25 years.
Joyce was a lifetime member of Providence Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School
and served as the church pianist for more than 50 years. She also enjoyed attending gospel
music concerts and playing the piano for the Hitchcock Family Quartet. Joyce was especially
interested in the history of Providence Baptist Church and Cemetery and was instrumental in
the upkeep and preservation of the cemetery itself. Some of her contributions included
obtaining Texas State historical markers for the church and cemetery as well as grave
stones for unmarked graves. She was also responsible for the publishing of the Tombstones
of Providence Cemetery.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband Philip (Bobby); five brothers, Leroy,
Stanley, Sr., Joe Dan, Homer Ray, and an infant brother, Homer Andrew; two sisters, Mae
Dell Billet and Elizabeth Miller; sisters-in-law, Alice Calvin and Estelline Calvin; and brothersin-law,
Harold Billet and Joe Miller.
She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Hitchcock-Robertson of Bryan; son and daughter-in-law,
Phil and Donna Hitchcock of Caldwell; grandson, Joshua Hitchcock of Caldwell; one brother,
J. Lynn Calvin of College Station; two sisters-in-law, Johnnie Calvin of Clarksville, Arkansas
and Lois Calvin of Caldwell; special cousin and neighbor, Frank Blazek; and numerous
nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Serving as pallbearers are Stanley Calvin, Jr., De Hitchcock, Jason Rangel, Johnny Towslee,
