Jerry M. Armstrong Sr.

Jerry M. Armstrong, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Jerry was born on November 17, 1935, in Union County, Mississippi, to Issac Claud and Esther Darling Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Dean Armstrong.

He is survived by the love of his life and devoted wife of 68 years, Marion Bean Armstrong; their sons, Jerry M. Armstrong, Jr. and wife Julie, and David A. Armstrong and wife Terri; five grandchildren, Jessica (and husband Ryan), Katherine (and husband Michael), Melanie (and husband Klint), Dalton, and Marshall; and four great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Karter, Weston, and Bruce.

Jerry grew up on a 40-acre farm in rural Mississippi, an upbringing that kept him rooted in the farming and ranching industry throughout his life. He graduated from Mississippi State University in June 1957 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and immediately joined Arthur Andersen & Co., an international accounting and consulting firm. He became a certified public accountant shortly thereafter and retired as a Senior Partner on June 30, 1998, after 41 years of service, all in the Houston office.

During his distinguished career, he served as lead partner for several of the firm’s largest clients, including Tenneco, Pennzoil, United Gas Transmission, Texaco, Central and Southwest Corporation, and Pogo Producing Company. In his final 15 years with the firm, he led the Houston energy practice.

Throughout his career, Jerry was known for his dedication to client service and his ability to untangle complicated problems. His mentorship of the employees he developed over the years earned him much respect among colleagues. His straightforward approach to business left a lasting impression not only on those he worked with, but also on the next generation of his family.

He was a member of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was also a member and past President of The Houston Club. Jerry served for over 20 years on the Board of Governors of The Center, supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, and served as its past President. In continued service to the community, he was a founding member, director, and past President of the Earl W. & Hazel C. Pierson Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides monetary support to other nonprofit organizations serving those in need.

Following retirement from Arthur Andersen, Jerry served for ten years on the Board of Directors of Pogo Producing Corporation.

In 2005, Jerry and Marion moved full-time to the family ranch in Dime Box, Texas and continued to be involved in the ranch that he established in 1973. He treasured being present in the lives of his grandchildren and took great joy welcoming his great-grandchildren into the world.

Jerry was a longtime member of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston, where he and Marion faithfully served for over 40 years. After relocating to the ranch in Dime Box, Texas, they became a member of Burleson County Cowboy Church, continuing his commitment to faith.

He was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and was especially passionate about the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering, which preserves the Western way of life honoring tradition, heritage, faith, and enduring values. He loved the outdoors and was an avid quail hunter. His appreciation for Western art, culture, and ranch life will continue to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at Burleson County Cowboy Church on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by his favorite meal of brisket and Blue Bell ice cream.
