James Edge passed away on August 16, 2022, with family by his side. Visitation for James begins at 10am and funeral service begins at 10:30am, Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery with Military Honors provided by JBSA from San Antonio.
James was born on September 24, 1936, in Grapeland, Texas, to Charles Floyd Edge and Leatha Parker. He married Bobbie Finley on September 6, 1956. They have been married for 65 years and within those years they had 5 children, James, Charles, Gary, Daniel, and Vonda. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking, he did enjoy his hobbies, but his priority had always been his family.
James made a career in the Military; he was in the United States Air Force for 23 years. He received the highest rank, which was to Captain. One of his military achievements was being the lead technician for the guidance system for Apollo 13 landing mission, during that mission he was station at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Throughout his military career, he and his family traveled to numerous places and now enjoy the memories from their travels. James wore many hats, after retirement from the Military, he began his work in education. He taught math for Somerville Junior High School, and later he was principal of Hearne High School and Lyndale High School. Teaching the word of God was his last job as the preacher at the Church of Christ in Somerville. James will be missed by all that had the privilege to have met him.
James is preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Kristen Beard, his brother Charles Edge, and his sister Wanda Thorton.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie Edge, his sons James Edge and wife Shaun of Murrells Inlet, SC; Charles Edge and wife Kathy of Milford, TX; Gary Edge and wife D’Ann of Fort Worth, TX; and Daniel Edge of College Station, TX; his daughter Vonda Beard of Tomball, TX; his brother Thomas Edge and wife Angie of Pasadena, TX; his 12 grandchildren Ashley Luccock, Austin Edge, Alex Edge, Cody Edge, Gary Lee Edge, Jarett Edge, Travis Edge, Duncan Edge, Brittany Edge, Shelby Edge, Tristan Edge, and Lauren Dawson and his 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbears include Gary Lee Edge, Cody Edge, Jarett Edge, Alex Edge, Tristen Edge, and Austin Edge.
