Mr. Calvin went to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 17, 2016.

Homer was born September 17, 1938 to Homer Calvin and Lydia (Blazek) Calvin in the Providence Community near Caldwell, Texas. He was the eighth of nine children. Homer graduated from Caldwell High School in 1958. On May 21, 1960 he married Lois Hildebrand in Brenham, Texas.

Shortly thereafter, they moved to Rosharon, Texas where Homer began his employment with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). During his 25 years of service, he worked at the W. F. Ramsey Prison Farm and the Darrington Men's Prison Unit. After retiring from TDCJ, he continued working as a security guard for various companies. Eventually he and Lois, whom he lovingly referred to as "Precious," returned home to Burleson County where he enjoyed spending time fishing with family and friends and attending high school football games in the area. Homer was also an avid gardener and sharing his abundance of produce with others brought him much delight. He was particularly fond and proud of his Brahma bulls, Mr. Wrinkles and Smokey. Church attendance was a priority in Homer's life. Throughout the years, he formed many friendships while attending various churches in the area.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leroy, Stanley, Joe Dan, and an infant brother, Homer Andrew Calvin; two sisters, Mae Dell Billett and Elizabeth Miller.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois (Hildebrand) Calvin of Caldwell; brother, J. Lynn Calvin of College Station; sister, Joyce Hitchcock of Caldwell; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Phil Hitchcock, Stanley Calvin, Jr., Joshua Hitchcock, David Stolte, Donald Stolte, Cody Mueggenborg, and Kermit Maas. Honorary pallbearers are David Johnson, Kenneth Beerwinkle, Jimmy Kemp, Lester Howard, Mack Cox, Craig Pliler, and Glen Chmelar.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ Cemetery at Lyons, Texas, Hospice Brazos Valley, or a charitable organization of your choice.
