Dorothy Gaines

Dorothy Gaines passed away peacefully at Kruse Village in Brenham, Texas on May 24, 2020. She was born on August 13, 1921 in Reedville, Virginia, to Arthur and Ruby Davis.

After completing Nursing training at Baltimore General Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Galveston, Texas during World War II. There she met Sammie Gaines and they were married on July 10, 1943. She moved to Somerville, Texas in 1944 and lived there until she moved to Brenham in 2018.

She was a school nurse for many years in Burleson County and enjoyed visiting the various schools.

She was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Weinman, of Brenham; son, Robert Gaines (Dot) of Stafford; grandsons, Kris (Sharon) and Travis Weinman and Jeff (Adrian) and Scott Gaines; great-grandsons, Connor Weinman, Cole Weinman; great grand-daughters, Hannah Weinman, Addie Gains along with one brother and one sister.

She is preceded in death by husband Sammie; son-in-law, Sidney Weinman; great-granddaughter, Macy; five sisters and four brothers.

Graveside services will be at 2:00pm, Wednesday, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Somerville with Rev. Victoria Simons officiating.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the American Legion, Oaklawn Cemetery Association, or First United Methodist Church of Somerville.
