Delbert Lightsey

November 1, 1921 — February 10, 2017

Delbert D. "Buddy" Lightsey, 95, of Cooks Point passed away Friday, February 10, 2017. His services are planned for Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home Caldwell with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. The burial will follow in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. There will not be any visitation.

Buddy as everyone knew him was born November 1, 1921 in Burleson County to parents Jim L. Lightsey and Lottie (Norcross) Lightsey.

He married the love of his life Edile (Lewis) February 28, 1943 this union was blessed nearly 74 years. They could always be seen together.

Buddy’s early years were spent farming in the Brazos Bottom. In later years he turned to ranching. He was a lover of horses all his life. He especially loved cutting horses and race horses. He had many special interests such as: The Cooks Point Community Center, being active in the Youth livestock show and promotion, the Rodeo Arena, playing a game of 42 with his friends, or sharing coffee with his buddies at the Cooks Point Store. He always gave support to the First Baptist Church School as well as the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Lightsey, 2 sisters, Dorothy Steck and Ruby Stufflebeme, and a nephew, Kenneth Stufflebeme.

Buddy is survived by his loving wife, Edile Lightsey of Cooks Point, a sister, Helen Barton of Bryan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends and also by special friends who have been so faithful the Munoz family and Leon Lazo.

Serving as pallbearers will be Billie Albright, Jose Munoz, Mike Grohosky, Joe Hovorok, John P. Steck, and Pete Scarmardo. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Evans, Leon Lazo, W.C. Scasta, Alvin Entrop and Bobby Roak.

Memorial donations may be given to the Masonic Cemetery Association or the First Baptist Church Caldwell General Fund or charity of your choice.
