Obituary

David Michael Wischnewsky, born on May 29, 1958, in Houston, Texas, passed on July 2, 2026, in Somerville. His passing leaves a space deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know his warmth and presence.

David was a devout husband and father who loved his family dearly. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, weld, and even taught himself how to make metal and Lichtenberg figure art. During his 33 years as a salesman at GHX, Inc, he was known as “Whiz” not just to shorten his name but because he truly could figure out anything. To many family and friends, he was known as Captain Dave. For many years, he coached softball and served as a pitching coach/catcher for both Sarah and Emily. He enjoyed the weekends with Erica and Brandon playing cards and dominoes. He was involved in whatever the family needed; he tried to be honest and a voice of reason. He was a devout Catholic Christian who loved Jesus. He will be remembered for the encouragement he offered, his jokes that drew a smile, and the simple gestures that spoke volumes of his love and devotion.

David is preceded in death by his parents William and Betty Wischnewsky, his sisters Elizabeth Wischnewsky and Wanda Morley, and his brother William F. Wischnewsky, Jr.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years Cynthia Wischnewsky, his daughters Erica Trube (Brandon Trube), Sarah VanSant (Tyler VanSant), and Emily Wischnewsky, his grandsons, Luke and Adam VanSant, and his sisters Yvonne Yaggi, Cindy Lowery, and Pam Davila.

Those mourning David’s loss are invited to gather in remembrance and thanksgiving for his life on July 8, 2026, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Frenstat. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, followed by the Rosary at 10:30am, and the Mass at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Knights of Columbus at Holy Rosary Catholic Church Frenstat. Each moment of these services is a testament to David’s faith and the ties he cherished to his community.

Let us honor the memory of David by holding close to the lessons he taught through his life. His love and support remain a bright light to all who continue his legacy. His spirit will endure in the stories, laughter, and love he left behind.
