Born in Port Arthur, Texas on Aug. 6, 1927
Departed on Feb. 29, 2016 and resided in Somerville, TX.

Alca Lucille Schoppe (Friedrich), 88, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat. Services begin at 10:00 AM. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m.

Alca was born in Port Arthur, Texas on August 6, 1927. She graduated from St. James High School in 1945. Alca met RJ Schoppe in 1950, and they married in 1951 (RJ said that he knew from the moment he saw Alca that he would marry her). Alca and RJ moved to Bryan, where they raised a family together. They retired to Somerville in 1983.

Alca was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat, Texas. She volunteered much of her time as a Sunday school instructor and to various church committees. Alca loved her family, being outside, gardening, cooking, crafting (especially ceramics), red roses, and reading. She had an ear for music, and was a shoulder for anyone who needed one. Alca loved children and animals. She was a vibrant woman with a beautifully unique laugh, and the world is a lot less colorful without her in it.

Alca was preceded in death by her loving husband, RJ; her parents, Conwell and Lelia Friedrich; and sisters, Marion and Vera. Alca is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Ray and Marian Schoppe of Lake Jackson, Paul and Karen Schoppe of Surfside, Joe and Debbi Schoppe of Texas City; daughter and son-in-law Terry and Don DeVille of Hermleigh; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Gene Frydrych.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to: Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Jude''s Cancer Research Hospital for Children in Memphis, Tennessee, or to St. Joseph''s Indian School in South Dakota.
